To the Rescue is a new fire and rescue activity book that is being used by Benjamin's Bags. Benjamin's Bags provides backpacks stuffed with hygiene supplies, educational items, fun things, and messages of comfort and hope for homeless and displaced children. I recently created an iron-on transfer for our stake young women and have decided to make it available here for free! Click on the Freebies button for more info... We made the pillowcases and ironed the transfers on and gave them to the girls at camp. They signed each others pillowcases with washable fabric markers.

The design can also be printed and used for YW scrapbooking projects. Let me know your ideas for using it. Send me a photo of what you do with the design and I'll post it here!

Young Women Values Books

I just finished the new Young Women's Values Book! The book contains pockets that correspond to all the values. The pockets can be used to store quotes, stories, and scriptural references for each value. More pockets -- which are just plain white envelopes decorated with my YW papers -- can easily be added.

A HUGE thanks to the design team at Just Bee Scrapin' for their assistance. I couldn't have done it without them. Thanks guys! The download and instructions for making the books will soon be online. I'll post a link as soon as its available.

I'm putting the finishing touches on some new sticker sets!

When they are complete, there will be over 20 sticker sets: Young Women's Camp, Primary Kids Stickers, Relief Society Sister Stickers, Baptism (boy and girl), Mission, Young Men's, etc.

A Long Time...

It's been a long time since I've posted. A lot has happened; a much needed vacation in California was one of the best things, the deaths of two of my closest friends were the worst.

Though I didn't find time to post, I did continue to draw. My favorite project was a set of three Christmas angels. One is modeled after my friend, Stacy Eyre, who died of leukemia on December 17. I named the angel Hope. You can see portions of all three angel posters at:

James Dashner

Okay, it's true. I've never met James Dashner and I've never read any of his books. I have, however, read rave reviews about his writing, my daughter thinks the music on his website is creepy but appealing, and I think he has an honest face.

That's why, when I read this morning on his blog, The Dashner Dude, that he was promoting his new book I decided I wanted to help. And, yes, I also wanted the free book -- the ARC, please, James. Autographed would be great!

Seriously, reading his books is one of those things I've always wanted to do and I'm looking forward to it. With a nice, honest face like his, I just know James has to be a wonderful writer.

As I mentioned a few days ago, I'm joining a new blogging team - Latter-day Authors.

Summer's Winding Down...

I can't believe how fast the summer has gone by but I'm thankful for all I've been able to accomplish. As always, thanks to all of you for your kindness and support. You have no idea how much your sweet emails mean to me.

I'm just now putting the finishing touches on the the October cover of Fandangle Magazine. I needed to mix a healthy living theme with Halloween -- it was a lot of fun! I'll post a link when the magazine goes online. Also, I received word from Rita Mills, director of ABC Publishing, that my preliminary sketch has been accepted. I'm now ready to do the final. This is so exciting!

For those of you who have asked (and please excuse me mentioning writing on this blog again!) I am going to be doing Good Things Utah again this year. I'm currently slated to appear in September. I understand there will be a studio audience and everyone will receive a free copy of my book, Peach 101. I'm also going to be doing the Channel 2 morning show. I'll post dates and times when I get them.

Mean Aunt Amy

I'm so excited to be working with talented Rhode Island author Amy Geraldine Marks! Amy's book, Mean Aunt Amy, was chosen as a finalist in the ABC's Children's Picture Book Competition and I'm honored to have been chosen as the illustrator.

Amy and I are going to putting up a blog to keep everyone up-to-date. Right now, the crunch is on for me as I endeavor to come up with a preliminary sketch by next Friday. Then, we progress to having a full-color spread completed by August 30. Internet voting will begin in September and a winner announced October 8.

LDS Artist and Author?

I've been wondering if I should change the title of this blog to "LDS Artist and Author." This past year, my writing has taken a back seat to illustration but in the last few weeks writing is fast catching up! I've just been hired as a deluxe editor writer for the Homemaking Cottage and I have some very special works in progress, such as my children's book, Tess and the Essay.

As I contemplated whether or not to cover both my art and writing on this blog, a new opportunity presented itself - a brand new writing blog that I'll start in September with several LDS authors I really admire. I'm so excited!

So, thats that. I'll now have a place to talk about my writing (I'll post details as soon as we're ready to go online) and I'll keep this blog mainly for art. However, I hope you don't mind if, once in awhile, I tell you about what I'm writing. It seems that the two parts of my life are becoming increasingly intertwined.

This morning, I received an email from Genevieve Riggs Williams, author of Crow's Adventure. Genevieve, who retired from academic administration at Emory University and the University of Miami, lives in Georgia and her work has been published in numerous journals and anthologies. Here's a line from her email: "An author can only hope that the illustrator visualizes her characters the way she does." Wow! That really touches my heart -- its the ultimate compliment an illustrator can receive. Thank you, Genevieve, for your kindness. You are a wonderful author and I look forward to reading more of your work.

I wrote for two local papers and for the Deseret News. We were spending lots of time traveling through the northwest and Canada. I was second counselor my ward Relief Society, and serving on the board of directors for a local company. My three oldest were all home and we were about to get a pleasant surprise - our youngest daughter. She was twelve years behind the rest!

What were you doing one year ago:
I was finishing my cookbook, Peach 101: Recipes Your Mother Never Told You About. My middle daughter was on a mission, my son moved back home for awhile, my oldest daughter was in dental school, my granddaughter turned three, and I decided to homeschool my youngest.

Five snacks you enjoy:
Artichoke hearts

Ginger Snaps & Snickerdoodles (baked by our friend, Kevin -- cookie maker extrodinaire!)

New Young Women's Collection

I've just produced a new Young Women's Collection for Latter-day Village, Tagz n Thingz. You can give Tagz, Mini-Posterz and Bookmarkz as handouts for lessons, activities, special events, etc. They can also be given as birthday gifts and "We Missed You" cards. Mini-Posterz can be used to decorate a room and tables for an event. You can make a table setting by using Tagz for place cards along with the Napkin Ringz and Placematz. Also, I'll have some new Stickerz for Beehives, Mia-Maids, and Laurels.

Going Digital

I'm going digital.

After many years of wonderful partnerships with the stores that carry my products, I've decided to make several of my designs available online. At present, Debra Woods Hamilton, creator of Latter-dayVillage.com, will carry most of my LDS designs. She currently has a collection of Young Women values stickers, bookmarks and scrapbooking items. You can find them by clicking on the links at the right. Debra has also agreed to carry a some of my Huckleberry Moose scrapbook papers. Again, please click on the link at the right to find them.

Debra is wonderful to work with and I'm excited to be affiliated with Latter-day Village. I'm in the process of designing a YW camp collection for Latter-day Village's Download Depot and will also be working on some designs for Fall.

I'm in the process of fine tuning agreements with other Internet vendors who are interested in carrying my art and I'll keep you posted on new developments. My cards and bookmarks will still be in stores but the bulk of my work will soon be available only online.
